Nba Summer League Draftkings Picks

NBA summer league is ultimately a gigantic tease. It was here for a couple of weeks, but it’s gone after tonight’s summer league title game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers. And just like that, daily fantasy basketball is again gone for months.

One of the top picks Gibbs is high on: Mohamed Bamba of the Orlando Magic at $7,700 on DraftKings. He's also rostering San Antonio Spurs guard Lonnie Walker at $8,200 on DraftKings.

I’ve had a little luck with my NBA DFS summer league picks, but I’ve also ran into a slew of scratches that derailed some otherwise promising lineups. You’re probably at risk of that again tonight, but with just two teams playing in the final game of the summer, the odds are decent that you’ll catch wind of any scratches before you have to officially finalize your roster.

I won’t waste a whole lot of time on this today, seeing as we’re dealing with just one game via DraftKings’ NBA Showdown contest. The aim here is to obviously pick the top players that will do the best, locate some sleepers that allow you to pay up and then also find 1-2 ways to differentiate your lineup.

The latter can be the main reason why a GPP team flounders, but it’s usually necessary to at least try.

With that, let’s dive into my favorite NBA DFS picks for tonight’s NBA summer league championship game:

Captain: Sviatoslav Mykhailuk – Los Angeles Lakers ($13.2k)

I think one way you can stack up while also still differentiating your NBA summer league lineup a bit is by paying down at the captain spot.

The guy you roster here gets 1.5x the points, but the main man everyone wants (Josh Hart) costs $17.7k to roster here. I’d rather just spend $6k less to get him as a normal contributor and grab one of his teammates for $4k less instead.

It could still backfire, but I think it’s an elite pivot and after the summer Mykhailuk has enjoyed, it might even be the best play from a raw points projection perspective.

Util: Josh Hart – Los Angeles Lakers ($11.8k)

I won’t be fading Hart, who put up 37 points last night (55 fantasy points) and has been awesome all summer long.

In fact, the only reason I’d keep him out of my NBA DFS summer league picks is if he’s scratched. He did play 35 minutes, so keep an eye out for that being a real possibility tonight.

Util: Wade Baldwin – Portland Trail Blazers ($10.6k)

I’m hoping Baldwin’s ownership dips a bit tonight. He’s been fantastic throughout the summer league, but regressed last night with just 17 fantasy points. I am expecting a big bounce-back effort, while an injury to first round rookie Anfernee Simons should open up big run in the title game. Just make sure he’s starting.

Util: Gary Trent – Portland Trail Blazers ($5.8k)

With Simons out, I think you can load up on Portland perimeter players. Simons was logging 20-25 minutes per contest, while Trent and some of the other Blazers guards had pretty prominent roles, regardless. Trent doesn’t do much else beyond scoring, but he was a borderline first round talent and continues to try to earn a roster spot.

Trent might not crush it, but he’s not too pricey and is fairly viable with over 21 fantasy points averaged per contest.

Util: John Jenkins – Portland Trail Blazers ($4.6k)

The same goes for Jenkins, who has always been known for his scoring ability. He’s put up really nice production throughout this league despite being handed limited minutes at times. Simons being out probably solidifies his role, while he popped off again for 13 actual points in 25 minutes last night.

Much like Trent, Jenkins is a scorer by trade and won’t do much else. However, he did pour in 25 actual points two games ago and has scored at least 12 points four different times this summer. he’s trying to work his way back into the NBA, so provided he gets good run again he’s a big threat (and an elite value) to come out firing in this one.

Util: Johnathan Williams – Los Angeles Lakers ($3.4k)

I’m sure a lot of people will try to load up even more than I am here, as there are several deep dives to consider rostering anywhere from $1k to Williams here at $3.4k. I prefer to just keep things balanced and nab Williams, who is getting nice run with the Lakers right now.

The absence of big man Mortiz Wagner isn’t hurting him, as he’s logged 23+ minutes in each of his last four contests and was on the floor for 36 minutes last night. Maybe the fatigue sets in or the Lakers rest him, but they probably need bodies and I won’t scoff at run like that.

Williams admittedly has not turned his floor time into amazing production, but he has flashed the ability to hit the boards, block shots and hit the three ball. If he can chip in 20-25 fantasy points I’d consider that a huge win for how this roster is presently constructed.

Overall, you’re dealing with only so many options from one game. How you decide to map out your daily fantasy basketball summer league lineup is up to you, but this is my favorite roster. Be sure to check up on Twitter for final lineups or reported scratches and whatever strategy you use, I wish you luck!

Draftking Nba Picks Tonight

By the way, whether you want to roll with my daily fantasy basketball summer league picks or not, you can actually just bet on this game as it stands as well. The Blazers (+105) offer the value as underdogs, but I love the Lakers (-135) as a straight up bet tonight.

The end of the 2018 NBA summer league for NBA DFS purposes arrives on Monday, which directly coincides with the start of this year’s MLB All-Star break. That makes for a lot of fun, but it also could mean daily fantasy sports fans endure a rough week with few sports to build lineups for.

You can still take part in the action tonight, though, as Memphis, Portland, L.A. and Cleveland will all fight for the right to play in the summer league title game.

I’ve personally been burned by a lot of player scratches lately, so like usual, that’s a big concern going into Monday night’s daily fantasy basketball summer league slate. That keeps me from going too hard from an entry fee perspective, but it’s still worth piecing a team together and seeing what sticks.

League

Let’s take a look at my favorite NBA DFS summer league picks for today and what kind of lineup that creates over at DraftKings:

Nba Summer League Draftkings Picks Odds

PG: Jevon Carter – Memphis Grizzlies ($7.4k)

Collin Sexton and Wade Baldwin are about $1k pricier, so as good as they look, I’m taking the savings here and banking on a big outing from Carter. This is a first round talent and he’s been playing very well for the Grizzlies, averaging almost 30 fantasy points per game this summer.

After just logging 19 minutes in his last game, I also think Carter is in play for big minutes tonight if he’s active.

SG: Anfernee Simons – Portland Trail Blazers ($5k)

Simons has been losing run to Wade Baldwin, who has been playing out of his mind. You’re going to need some value at some point, though, and the raw first round rookie at least provides some nice scoring ability.

Portland has no plans to force him into a big role in his first year, so it wouldn’t be shocking for them to give him more floor time tonight. Simons has a long ways to go, but he’s a good athlete with great scoring upside. He popped off for 20 actual points in his last outing and could easily return elite value based on his price today.

SF: Jamel Artis – Cleveland Cavaliers ($6.2k)

Cedi Osman is a lock for me if he finally plays again, but he’s suited up for the Cavs just twice this summer and very well could be done. That puts Artis in play, as he’s scored decently and also cleaned the glass at a solid rate.

I’d prefer him to be a bit cheaper, but he’s poured in 23+ fantasy points per contest over his last three games, so if he’s going to get good minutes he’s a fine try tonight.

PF: Caleb Swanigan – Portland Trail Blazers ($6.4k)

Draftkings

I’ll grab a Portland big man to close this slate out, one way or another. There are a few to choose from, so do your best to see which guys start and/or end up getting scratched. Swanigan is a candidate to get nice run and he’s been productive thus far, averaging almost 24 fantasy points per contest.

If you want a cheaper option, considering dropping down to Ivan Rabb ($4.9k) if Memphis big man Jaren Jackson Jr. ends up sitting out tonight.

C: Deyonta Davis – Memphis Grizzlies ($6k)

The top two centers on this slate – Mortiz Wagner and Ante Zizic – are ruled out for the remainder of summer league, so your options are very limited here. Davis stands out the most to me, as he’s not a terrible price and has played well for Memphis this summer.

If the Grizz try to win this thing, it may make sense to attempt to do so with Davis, who they’re clearly still developing. He did log 30 minutes in his last game, though, so a punt with someone like Georgios Papagiannis ($4.3k) is certainly in play.

I really only want to make that move if Davis is out and/or a slew of Blazers sit to open up big minutes for the raw Papagiannis.

G: John Jenkins – Portland Trail Blazers ($4.9k)

You can also consider Gary Trent Jr. here, as the Blazers are just loaded with guards that can score the ball. Jenkins has proven he can fire off in a limited amount of minutes, as he put up 25 points in his last game. I think he’s a threat to make that happen again here and he’s obviously really cheap.

Stacking too many Portland players could quickly be a mistake. Hopefully we catch wind of some key guys sitting out. If so, these Blazers value picks could end up being must-use core options.

F: Ivan Rabb – Memphis Grizzlies ($4.9k)

Rabb only logged 12 minutes the last time he took the court during NBA summer league play and he hasn’t suited up since July 12th, so he’s going to be a risky pick. His risk is basked into his price tag, it seems, so I’m willing to take the dive and hope Jaren Jackson Jr. sits this one out.

Rabb has been pretty productive in three appearances, averaging over 21 fantasy points per game so far this summer.

Util: Josh Hart – Los Angeles Lakers ($9k)

I am anticipating really low ownership for Hart, just because it’s always possible the Lakers sit him out and he’s the most expensive player on the board. He has been super consistent for the Lake Show this summer, though, and if he plays he feels like a lock for 35-40 fantasy points.

His game comes up first tonight, so you should be in the know when it comes to his and the statuses of all Cavs and Lakers. Depending on that game, the picture of how you want to map our your NBA DFS summer league should clear up quite a bit.

Despite this being a pretty small slate, there are actually a lot of avenues to consider. Players being randomly scratched or limited open things up, so just be flexible and on top of the latest NBA summer league news and you’ll have a solid shot at placing.

Whatever you decide, I wish you luck tonight. Enjoy the games!
